Gary Hall Center swimming pool
Wolfstahl, Austria
Project description
The Gary Hall Center private swimming pool is located in an Austrian village and includes a wellness and fitness area. The building consists of two stacked volumes. The lower semi-buried part contains the entrance, changing rooms, fitness and technical spaces, while the upper part houses a 25-metre pool and wellness. A glazed façade with tinted glass ensures views and privacy. The metallic surface reflects the surroundings and reduces the visual mass of the building.

Building location
The swimming pool is located in a quiet area near the forest. The slope with a three-metre difference was used in the design, and the building was divided into two levels. The longer part is parallel to the contours.
Given the rural context, we chose simple orthogonal volumes precisely enclosing the individual functions. A light glazed volume is placed on a lower part that is semi-buried in the terrain.
Use of the site
The swimming pool footprint fully uses planning regulations. To meet height limits, the building was divided into two levels. Entrance hall and garage are accessed from ground level, while other spaces are deeper underground.
The collaboration with the architectural studio RULES was exceptional from the very beginning.
The vision resulted in a space that exceeded expectations – the Gary HAll Center, a 25-meter indoor pool with an interconnected fitness, wellness, sauna world and massage rooms, represents a top-notch combination of functionality, aesthetics and technological precision.
The RULES team demonstrated high professionalism, extraordinary flexibility and the ability to think in context – with an emphasis on detail, but at the same time with a clear vision of the whole.
They were willing to look for solutions where others saw obstacles, and their ability to listen, adapt and at the same time bring their own suggestions was key to the successful implementation of the entire project.
Today, the Gary Hall Center is not just fitness. It is inspiring, where movement, relaxation, energy and art meet.
And behind its architectural signature are people who love what they do – and do it exceptionally well.
With sincere respect and gratitude
Swimming pool architecture
The transparent façade of the pool hall acts as a membrane between interior and exterior, eliminating the enclosed feeling typical of basement swimming pools in family houses. The space feels like part of the exterior.
Facade duality
Tinted glass protects against sun and ensures privacy, keeping the owner invisible during the day. The façade reflects the surroundings, making the volume visually disappear and blend with the rural context.
Color atmospheres
In the pool hall, we designed lighting that can transform the colours of the interior and surroundings. Although subtle, the light colour strongly influences the atmosphere and gives the space different moods.
