Heritage renovation and annex
Bezručova 3 a 5, Bratislava, Slovakia
Construction 2016–2020
The main goal of the renovation was the preservation of the heritage building through new functions and technical adaptation to current use. Planning requirements required almost 200 underground parking spaces. The only solution was the removal of less valuable parts, construction of an underground garage and subsequent restoration. Part of the garage is under Bezručova 3, most under Lomonosova Street.
Construction start
The first step was the demolition of part of the building at Bezručova 3, which heritage authorities identified as the least valuable. In this part, the entrance to the underground garage was created together with related infrastructure. Underground parking was also built under Lomonosova Street.
Underground garage excavation
The photographs show a large excavation for an underground garage, designed to meet parking standards for residential and civic uses. The question remains whether such requirements are always appropriate in the constrained conditions of a city centre.
